Here's a few Simpletons tabs I've completed or began. They're not all written out properly and some of them are just skeletons but it's a start. I've worked out a few others also but I haven't written them out yet (it takes bloody ages!) Anyhow, enjoy. I don't think there are any Simpletons tabs around on the net so my dodgy ones will have to do :) Cheers, Matt. *Crash Out* by the Simpletons from "Matter" Tabbed by Matt.G (gewsh@hotmail.com - email me any comments if you like) Notes: There's a lot of little lead sounds that are made in the background that I haven't tabbed. A lot of them are little arpeggios or doubling of chords on the high strings and stuff. It's kind of general "fiddling around" and hopefully this tab is still ok if I leave it out. Incidentally, the chords are the same for "Catch Hymn" off the Tandem album. *Intro Cheyne strums C then Cmaj7 on the acoustic while Darren does a little intro. Then the bass plays kicks in and the acoustic continues with C. Darren's riff is some kind of descending in 3rds thing. It all looks something like this C Cmaj7 e-------------------------------- b-------------------------------- G--------7~----------9~---------- D--4h5p4--------5h7p5------------ A-------------------------------- E-------------------------------- C e----------------------3--------- b-/12-12-12-10-8-6-3-5---5--1~--- G-/12-12-12-10-9-7-4--------0----- D-------------------------------- A-------------------------------- E-------------------------------- The last note of Darren's riff is played as the first chord of the verse progression begins. It is C, Em, F, Dm This is continued throughout the verses. Darren plays a few little arpeggios and stuff over the chords. C Em F Dm Stop by, if you know where to go to C Em F Dm Drop in if you feel you wish to C Em F Dm Stay over, if you don't want to walk home C Em F Dm I can't promise I can entertain you C Em F Dm But you know you are always welcome to.. Chorus G Am Crashhhhh Out X2 On the first G Darren doubles it with a higher G, something like: e-------- b-//12~-- G-//12~-- D-------- A-------- E-------- Verses and choruses continue Put to sleep, put to rest part is: G and Am again Darren plays the little quiet intro riff in the background as well as something like: e-----5p0h5p0h5p0----- on the high e under the Am The solo has some doubled strings again I think, 3rds and stuff, which I can't quite get right. I think it's basically this though: e-------------------------------------------------------- b-------------------------------------------------------- G-------------------------------------------------------- D-------------------------------------------------------- A-2h3-3-3-3/5-5-5-5/7-7-7-7-5-7-7/8-7-5-7-7-7/8-7-5-3-3-- E-------------------------------------------------------- e----------------------------------------------------- b----------------------------------------------------- G----------------------------------------------------- D----------------------------------------------------- A-2h3-3-3-3/5-5-5-5/7-7-7-7-5-7-7/8-8-8-8-7-8-8/10---- E----------------------------------------------------- e----------------------------0--------------------------- b---------------8/6--6p5--4--5-----3-------5-3----------- G-/9-7-5/4-5~---9/7--7p5--3--5-------5-4-5-----5-4-5-7-9- D-------------------------------------------------------- A-------------------------------------------------------- E-------------------------------------------------------- e--------------------------------------------------------------------------- b--13----------------------------------------------------------------------- G-----14--12--9---10-9----------------------------------------------9/10--9- D------------------------12-10--10/12--12h14^12h14^12h14^12h14^12--10/12-10- A--------------------------------------------------------------------------- E--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Back to normal chords and stuff, until end solo which is a going up and down the scale (again I think, in thirds) type thing. Also a second guitar plays some little lead riffs again first guitar (low, scale thing) e------------------------------------------------------------------- b-------------------------------------------------------------------- G-------------------------------------------------------------------- D-------------------------------------------------------------9--9--9- A--2h3-3-3-3-2-3-3/5-5-5-5-3-5-5/7-7-7-7-5-7-7/8-8-8-8-7-8-8/10-10-10- x lots E--------------------------------------------------------------------- then the descent is something like e---------------------------------------- b---------------------------------------- G---------------------------------------- D--9/7-7/5-5/3---7/5-5/3-3/0-0h2--------- A-10/8-8/7-7/5---8/7-7/5-5/2-3----------- E---------------------------------------- And the high little riff during this is, I think, just: e--10-7-10-7-10-7- repeat.. b----------------- G----------------- D----------------- A----------------- E----------------- *Occupation* by the Simpletons from the Matter album badly semi-tabbed by Matt.G (gewsh@hotmail.com - email me comments, corrections etc please) Notes: only had a quick go at this, I'll have to tab it properly later... Play around with the powerchord progression: A, C#, B, C and do lots of crazy stuff. then for smoko is the time I like best Dsus2 : like this e---------------2--2-0------ b-2-3-2-3-2-3-0-3--3-3------ x2 A and then some chords I just can't figure G---------------2--2-2------ out at this point GRRRRR! D---------------0--0-0------ A--------------------------- E--------------------------- The screw the cap on progression is mostly just D, A using some sus's and stuff. the little A sound is made by e----------------------- b-2-3-2-0------------------ G-2-2-2-2------------------- D-2-2-2-2------------------- A-0-0-0-0------------------- *Solitaire* by the Simpletons from the Matter album tabbed by Matt.G (gewsh@hotmail.com) Notes: 1. Best song in the world 2. Performance depends on strumming the chords right - getting the high strings ringing and stuff. You'll have to have a listen to it and hopefully get a sense of it. It's not anything tricky, just nice playing of the chords. Intro and verse progression is: Em7, Dsus2, Cadd9, Dsus2/D/Dsus4 x3 Em7, Dsus2, C, G Sounds like some weird chords but actually it's pretty simple: Just lock your finger on the D note (b string at the third fret). This is the ringing note that is always hit. You just mainly change the bass notes. Very basically like this: Em7 Dsus2 Cadd9 Dsus2/D/Dsus4 e--------------(0)------------(0)-2--3-------- then the last time you play b------3-3------3-3------3-3---3--3--3-------- a normal C instead of the G------0-0--2-2-0-0------0-0---2--2--2-------- Cadd9 (keep that b string D--2--------0-0------2-2-------0-------------- ringing though) and then a G A--2-----------------3-3--------------------- E--0------------------------------------------ Hopefully if you look at the tab and listen to the recording you'll hear what I'm trying to explain. The Chorus is Am C G a few times. Hold the Am a bit longer the last time. Verses and choruses continue the same. End on G (hitting the bass and the high strings alternately to make the little effect). *Till the Sky* by the simpletons from the Tandem LP tabbed by Matt.G (gewsh@hotmail.com) Notes: I haven't written this out exactly, but the chords are just D, A, C and G in different progressions. Basic progression is: D, A, C, G e-0h2----3--0-0-------3-3---------- I haven't written it very well but the b-3---3--3--2-2-1-3-1-0-0---------- point is you can get the little melody g-2---2--2--2-2-0-0-0-0-0--etc----- sound by adding a few simple fingers D-0---0--0--2-2-2-2-2-0-0---------- here and there: the Dsus2 and 4, the A-----------0-0-3-3-3-2-2---------- 9th on the C etc E---------------------3-3---------- last time, hold the C then: A D D (the big sounding chords) he's the skatiest of the skaters G, A, D - skate until the sky bit... G A D I'll give you... etc *Soup* by the Simpletons from the Tandem LP Notes: haven't written this one out yet.. beginnning chord progression is: D G A *Golden Mean* by the Simpletons from the Tandem LP quasi-tab by Matt.G (gewsh@hotmail.com) Notes: I haven't finished tabbing this yet either. Haven't done the break and haven't put in all the lead stuff in the background. It's a start though. For the first chord try playing this: e--0--- b--5--- g--7--- D--5--- A--0--- <--- actually you might leave that string out or it might be 7. E------ then e--------------------- b---5--5--5---5--5--5- g----7--7------6--6--- repeat D--5--5--5---5--5--5-- A--------------------- E--------------------- for a while. then there's the E and G chord bit. Try it like this: ------------ ------------ --4-4--7---- --6-6--9---- a couple of times with a --7-7-10---- ------------ E-0h2-2-2--0h2-2-2--- thrown in then there's a: D (or maybe Dsus4) I think before it breaks into the nice bit at last, which is a basic progression like this: G, C, Am, Am with a little riff going: e------------------------------------ b------------------------------------ g----------------------------------- repeat D------------------------------------ A-----0-2-3-2-0-0--------------------- E---3--------------2-2-2-2-2-2-2 (quietly) "More than two thirds etc" - G, C G, C D then back to verse. break: errr... at the end there's a little background riff going something like: e--3---3---3---3--2--5-- repeat b---3---3---3---3--3--3- g----0---0---0---0------ D-------------- A-------------- E-------------- *These days* by the Simpletons from the Tandem LP semi-tabbed by Matt.G (gewsh@hotmail.com) Notes: Once again, a fair few little riffs and stuff in the background that I haven't tabbed. This is a general guideline to playing it though. Verse/chorus: F, Bb, F, C doubled with chords up the neck and a little accordian riff that is similar to: e------------------------------------------------------------------------ b------------------------------------------------------------------------ g-------------------------------------------------------9-7-----------.-- D------7-10-8-7----7----------------------7-10-8-7----------10-8-7----.-- A--8------------10----10-8-7-8-10-----8------------10--------------10---- E------------------------------------------------------------------------ and "they're still sleepin together" part is: Bb then C then back to normal progression
